Historical Background

La hall della Residenza Luca Pacioli a Sansepolcro

Luca Pacioli Historical Residence is located in Palazzo Magi, a stately home with Medieval roots, and is a privileged witness to the history and architectural evolution of Sansepolcro. Formerly owned by the aristocratic Palamidessi family, the palazzo underwent a major transformation in the 1700s, when it was taken over by the Pacchi family.

With great sensitivity and mastery, the new owners completely refurbished the building, which still retains its splendid decorations and neoclassic frescoes, testimonies to an era of great artistic and cultural fervour.

An important chapter in the history of Palazzo Magi is associated with the events of 1849, when the Pacchi family, keen supporters of Giuseppe Mazzini, took in Angelo Brunetti (Ciceruacchio) and his sons, Luigi and Lorenzo, who took shelter in the palazzo after they fled following the fall of the Roman Republic. This episode, a milestone in the history of the Risorgimento, adds a further layer of significance to the historical legacy of the palazzo.

Today, the Residence is no longer merely a place of great beauty and charm, but also a tribute to Luca Pacioli, the great mathematician and Franciscan friar who was born in Sansepolcro.

The symbol of a fascinating and multi-faceted history, the stately home is a meeting point between art, science and politics, in a location where the past continues to live alongside and interact with the present.
